The term crossroad, as defined by Webster’s dictionary, refers to “a point at which a crucial decision must be made that will have far-reaching consequences.” For couples, the crossroads is where everything in their relationship comes to a head. It is a moment of decision, where moving forward requires choosing a direction. Though my primary focus in this book is on marital relationships, the lessons and insights apply to all kinds of relationships.
Couples may reach a crossroads for many reasons—conflicting parenting styles, different life philosophies, incompatible beliefs, adultery, unmet needs, financial stress, and more. These moments of constant discord challenge couples to make crucial decisions: Where do we go from here? The crossroad is a place of vulnerability and challenge, where couples face hard truths and the pressures of their relationship. Even Jesus experienced a crossroad moment on the cross when He said, “Father, not my will, but Yours be done.”
This book encourages couples to view the crossroad as an opportunity for growth and transformation, not defeat. It is a place designed by God for repentance, humility, and restoration. At the crossroads, couples can choose to surrender their pride, let go of their own expectations, and allow God to work in their hearts. It is a place where individuals can become better versions of themselves—more loving, patient, and committed.
However, the decision made at the crossroads doesn’t only affect the couple; it has ripple effects on everyone connected to them. God speaks of the crossroad in Jeremiah 6:16, urging His people to seek the good path and walk in it. Yet, like many today who choose divorce, the people in the scripture refused to follow God’s way.
In this book, I share personal experiences, including how my own marriage came close to ending. But instead of letting the crossroad divide us, my husband and I fought to overcome it. My hope is that this guide helps Christian couples, especially those contemplating divorce, to find victory at their own crossroads moments.
